Spiritual Binder

Spiritual Binder

These last few years as I’ve been growing deeper in my faith I’ve been looking for tools and resources that will help me along my journey. I heard about the idea of a spiritual binder from YouTube. I modeled my personal binder after the one that Christine Pearson showed on her channel. You can see that video here. I’ve been making small changes here and there as I use it to make it work better for me. I placed some simple yet pretty scrapbook paper in the front, spine, and back of the binder to spruce it up a bit. Spiritual Binder

I like using this Avery Protect & Store Mini 3 Ring binder. I keep prayer cards, tithing cards, and my family picture in the plastic pouch. The night before church I’ll fill out my cards and check. That way I have it all ready for church the next morning. I also like having my family picture in there because it’s a constant reminder of everything I have to be thankful for.

Here’s a glance at my first set of tabs: Bible Study, Verses, Gratitude, Prayer, and Sermon. The Bible Study and Sermon are where I jot down notes of what stood out or spoke to me. As I find a scripture verse that resonates with me, I write it with my favorite verses. I don’t use the gratitude and prayer as much as I would like to. I started off writing in there daily, but now it’s mostly weekly.

And here’s my second set of tabs: Worship, Sites, Inspire, Read/Listen, and Tithing. My worship tab is kind of a work in process. It’s for lyrics and poems that may resonate with you, but I’ve been using it as more of a resource page. I have power tools, positive projects, study tips, etc. For the sites, I write down any websites that I hear about during sermons or bible studies that I may want to look up later. Next I write down all of my favorite inspirational quotes and then any books I want to read. And lastly I keep track of all of my tithes and check numbers.

In the back of my binder I just keep some of my daily affirmations and verses I’ve been working on memorizing.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Make Decisions

10 Bible Verses to Help You Make Decisions

Second Time Around

Second Time Around

One of my goals this year has been to read more. I have four different book cases overflowing with books and I haven’t read half of them. It’s quite pitiful. And that’s not including all of the books that I have downloaded on my Kindle. So I have been challenging myself to read one paper book and one Kindle book a month, as well as a new Bible study every quarter. So one of the last books I finished was one of my Kindle books: Second Time Around by Joann Durgin.

This book follows a newlywed as he tries to win over his bride again after she has a terrible accident that leaves her with amnesia. It was definitely different than most books I read, but I did enjoy it. There were a few parts that I thought were kind of silly. However, I did enjoy the moments when the main character has conversations with his mentor. It allowed me to reflect on aspects of my life from a different viewpoint. Which in my opinion is always a great part of any good book. Overall I would give it a 4 out of 5 and would recommend it to some of my Christian friends.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Make Decisions

Sunday Scripture Blog Series

One of the hardest things for me is to make personal decisions. It seems when I’m at work, I have no problems making decisions. However, at home I get struck with this overwhelming fear that keeps me from really making a decision and following through with it. There was a time that I could make decisions on the fly and just go with the flow. But I learned that when I did that, myself or others would get hurt in some way. So I’ve learned to be cautious; sometimes too cautious. So here’s 10 verses that I’ve learned to pray over when I need a little help with a decision I’m facing. These are from my Life Application Study Bible: New Living Translation.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Make Decisions

James 1:5
“If you need wisdom – if you want to know what God wants you to do – ask Him, and He will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.”

Psalm 19:8
“The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight to life.”

Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalms 37:7
“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.”

Proverbs 13:20
“Whoever walks with the wise will become wise: whoever walks with fools will suffer harm.”

1 John 5:14
“And we can be confident that He will listen to us whenever we ask Him for anything in line with His will.”

Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths.”

Hebrews 4:15
“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin.”

James 4:7
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.”

Proverbs 11:14
“Without wise leadership, a nation falls; with many counselors, there is safety.”

For the Love of Bible Studies

Sunday Scripture Blog Series

My journey in my faith is not always straight as an arrow. I long to grow more as a Christian and have a deeper understanding in the world around me. To help me with this, I have purchased several Bible studies to read through. My self-discipline to set up a solid study time isn’t always the best, but these are the Bible studies that are on my Study List.

Children of the Day Bible Study

The Children of the Day Bible study is the one that I’m currently working through. The local church that I had been attending starting doing this one but due to scheduling constraints I couldn’t attend. So I bought the series to do at home with a few friends. The basis behind this study is that through the challenges of family life, work driving you crazy, and just not knowing where you fit in at times; God has a plan for you and his timing is everything. Next I’ll share with you some other Bible studies that I have.

Growing in Christ Bible Study

Growing in Christ: Lessons on Assurance is designed to help you with fundamentals of a Christian life as you study scripture. It covers assurance on salvation, answered prayer, forgiveness, giving, good works, etc. There is a second study associated with this that I currently do not have yet, Growing in Christ: Lessons on Christian Living.

Women Like Us Bible Study

I’ve had this study for a while now, and sets forth to help contemporary women face everyday challenges with Biblical wisdom. It will help growing Christians with issues such as difficult marriages, infertility, caring for aging parents, materialism, and much more.

Proverbs Bible Study

Proverbs is a very powerful book in the Bible due to the many accounts of wisdom shared throughout it. This study explores the timeless wisdom shared within the book of Proverbs to help us make wiser decisions in our every day lives.

What Bible studies have you participated in that really spoke to you? I’m always on the look out for great studies, so please share some of your favorites in the comments below!

Sunday Scripture Blog Series

Welcome to my first Sunday Scripture! I wanted to start this series off by sharing my all time favorite Bible verse, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9. As I mentioned in my What Holds Me Together post, I’ve been through some trying times in my life. I’m sure everyone has at some point in their life. It took me a long time to understand that the dark valleys were there to help us really appreciate the beauty of the glorious mountains. But that doesn’t take out the sting. I hold this verse close to my heart during those times. It gives me hope, strength, courage. Which is everything this verse speaks to. The world can knock me down 100 times, I’m going to stand back up 101. I may be struck down, but I will never be destroyed. And this is not because I’m She-Ra or Super Woman. It’s because I cling to the determination and the strength provide to me from the Lord. 2 Corinth 4

And if you have a hard time connecting to this verse, I’ll let Rocky Balboa take it from here.

What Holds Me Together

Thankful Thursday Blog Series

When I decided to start a new Thankful Thursday blog series, I began going over a list of things that I’m thankful for. It really is quite a large list too. I have been very blessed throughout my life and I’m learning to see more and more beauty around me. So I figured that I would start this series with what tops my list every time, God.

God is Within Her She Will Not FailI don’t always post things about my religious beliefs, but if I’m going to keep everything honest on this blog then I have to write about what’s in my heart. I am very far from being a strong, devout Christian, but I always try to keep God in my heart. I have been through many dark valleys in my life that include abuse, divorce, and illness. I may eventually open up more on those topics but for now, I just want to mention the common thing that got me through and that is my relationship with God. There were moments when I was at my absolute lowest and darkest, and I could still feel God’s love shining through to me. It is this knowledge that keeps me going; that puts me back together when I fall apart. I may still struggle and fall at times, but I know I can keep trying. I will cover more of my relationship with my new series, Sunday Scriptures. I will cover my favorite Bible verses, Bible studies, and experiences. Even if you’re not a Christian, I encourage you to join me during this series. I hope that my experiences and insights may help someone, anyone who may be going through similar situations. But for now, I’ll close with this. I am everything that I am, and I have everything that I have because of God. He is the number one thing that I’m grateful in my life. I hope to see you this Sunday for my new series, and be sure to catch me next week for more Thankful Thursdays!
